The Art of Carlos Barahona Possollo
Any of you folks out there that studied mythology in high school or college know that without even having to read between the lines that the gods were horny. Abductions, secret affairs, naked bondage, and transmogrification were fairly common.
Possollo's beautifully rendered work depicts bawdy, fully engorged versions of mythological creatures — especially fauns — that seem true to how the gods supposedly behaved. We generally shy away from more explicit images for our art section, but we decided that adding the filter of a second click of the mouse would be appropriate to warn viewers that the content is more adult than usual. If you don't want to see complete nudity, better to move on.
Carlos Barahona Possollo (1967) lives and works in Portugal. He has collaborated with Portuguese government in series of postage stamps, including the series commemorating the fifth centenary of Vasco da Gama's travels. Besides the randy gods of mythology, he also specializes in portraits of the Catholic saints. He is well exhibited in both solo and group shows and his work is included in many museums and private collections.
